Sole-Mate of the Week | 8/22/08 - 8/29/08 | Tyler J. Mansour

Team SD is proud to present this week's 'Sole-Mate of the Week': 8/22/08 - 8/29/08

Check out the interview after the jump...

Name:
Tyler Jordan Mansour

Location:
Goose Creek, South Carolina

Age:
19

Occupation:
Student, but future employee of sneaker boutique(name cannot be disclosed just yet).

What your wearing in the photo (outfit)?:
Cooks & Castles x Mosley Tribe Castellano Sunglasses
Gabriel Urist Capsule Necklace
St. Christopher Necklace
In4mation T-shirt
Nike Live Strong wristband
Even Steven Nudie Jeans
Air Jordan '00 Retro V's

What do you base your choice of clothing off of?:
I base my clothing off of things that have inspired me throughout my life(i.e. role models, political statements, etc.). I also like my clothing to be subtle, yet bold. A t-shirt that can make a strong statement in a discreet way is what I usually leans towards.

Approximately how many pairs of sneakers do you currently own?
I currently own about 140 pairs of sneakers.

Favorite sneaker(s) of all time?
The Air Jordan Space Jam XI's are by far my favorite pair of sneakers of all time. Not only are they great looking sneakers, but they hold a lot of sentimental value as well. When the movie Space Jam came out back in 1996, I went to go see it with my brother and dad in theaters. Obviously the Space Jam XI's are the shoes he wore to defeat the Monstars. So, naturally whenever I look at these sneakers, they remind me of the movie, which in return takes me on a trip down memory lane during the good times I had with my dad and brother.

Ever camped out for a pair of sneakers?
I've camped out a few times before for sneakers. The campout that stands out the most to me though is the Chamber of Fear Complacency AF1's. I was on spring vacation with my parents and coincidentally Niketown Chicago was releasing these when I was going to be in Chicago(ok, so maybe I planned that). Anyway, I got to Niketown Chicago at about 6AM the day of the release. The line was already wrapped around the corner and then some, but I was still in good condition. Unfortunately, Niketown wasn't releasing these sneakers until about 9PM that night, so it'd be a long wait to say the least. The greatest thing about the release besides meeting all the cool and down to earth people, was that my parents waited in line with me so that I could get two more pairs(thanks mom and dad!).

Worst sneaker of all time in your opinion?
This is tough because Nike even puts out a lot of terrible sneakers, let alone all the other brands that are out now. If I had to pick one, I would say that the Soulija Boy Yum Yums. For starters, the name of these shoes is terrible. Then, the shoe just lacks so much creativity and is very unoriginal. Finally, it's Soulja Boy we're talking about. In a way, I guess it's sort of inspiring because it looks like anyone can have their own sneakers now. Maybe I'm next!

Favorite brand(s) of clothing?
The Hundreds, Original Fake, In4mation, Mighty Healthy, Diamond Supply Co., Crooks & Castles, 10 Deep, Obey, Sh!t(local artist), Wolfkid(local artist), and Brown Derby(local artist)

What's your opinion on people who buy, whether it be sneakers or clothing, just for the hype?

People that buy clothing or sneakers solely because of hype use to bother me, but now I don't mind it. I've learned that you can't let other people's actions and reasons for doing things bother you because you can't control them. I just try to think for myself because if I let others sway me from what I like because it happens to be the cool thing now, then really I'm just as bad because I'm letting them determine what I like or not like, which is just as bad as someone who buys things because of hype.

Shout outs?
I'd like to give a shout out to Melanie(the most fashionable girl I know), my mom and dad because without them, I wouldn't be doing this interview right now. I'd like to give a shout out to my sister, Erin, my brother, Jarod, and my three nieces, Dylan, Julia, and Maddie. I'd like to give a shout out to my right hand man, Ryan(I see you Ryan!). Gustavo, Andrea, and Mateo Serrano for having the best store in town, B'zar, being such great friends to me, and taking me in as one of their kids(lol @ Andrea). Walter Pinkney for being the coolest, youngest-oldest person I know(Walter Pinkey Photography for the win!). Natasha aka Tash for being the coolest Indian I know and being there for me through thick and thin(stop treating me like Ryan treats you though!) Now I'm getting lazy, so I'm just going to name names now. Curt, Lytle, Ron, Stan, Tre, Ondriono, Omar, Jason, Dom, and all of Team SC, Will, Thomas, Phil, LA, and all of GFC(Lacoste is still better), Travis, Vicky(stop smoking on those self destructing sticks), Nik(keep killing the KR), Perry(CurbeYE), Dahlia, Cory(thanks for the redbull), Charlotte, Sharon(the Fudgery), Cat, Sedine(I miss the GCREC Bball days), TC(Hoopin' With AJ!), and Bonnie(I'll always have mad love for you). If I missed anyone, I apologize, but you know I love all of my friends.
